I know this is probably not what EVERY place in Texas is like, but this is what conversations are like on Nextdoor app in our neighborhood.

Angel
do we need to shut down ? Or is this specific to area?
Author • Saigling
Hi Saliesh You only turn water off if you have a water leak due to frozen or burst pipes. If you need help I can stop by to better explain.
Angel
thanks. I thought there is a advisory from county. Surely will touch base in case I aster issues

Thanks for the reminder Angel, just found mine in the garage and put them by the back door ready for next weeks chilly weather…. Any other tips to consider? Have covered all the outside faucets, relocated some potted plants to a more sheltered location…. Got my outdoor plant covers ready to put on… is there anything you can think of? Thanks

– Leave cabinet doors open where there are pipes next to an outside wall – kitchens, baths, showers, etc – let those faucets drip while temperatures are below freezing. Run pools continuously when temps are below freezing

thanks for those tips Wayne we really appreciate it. Stay warm and hope it’s not too cold. Merry Christmas 🎄
Nice to do this for the neighbors

If u don’t have one u can use a flat head screwdriver and push the lock mechanism one way or the other to open real easy but then u have to use a crescent wrench to shut water off. Remember also everyone should have a main shutoff valve above your hot water tank on the cold side. It should be a ball valve and that also shuts water off to your inside lines(edited)
Thank you for the reminder… my key is deep in my garage some where… I need to get it out before Thursday!

wherever your hot water tank is you can shut it off there also. There is what they call a ball valve on the cold water line above your hot water tank. Try it so u know you can do it before u actually have to do it that way your not going to be afraid of doing it. Turn a spigot on then turn valve off if you have a upstairs use a lower faucet that way if u HAVE to do it it will bleed all the water from above also. If you have to turn back on at a later time do to fixes then u will have to bleed air out of lines by running the water(edited)

Good man!

Did we have to turn water off?

only necessary if your plumbing is leaking due to frozen pipes.

Open any cabinet doors on cabinets on exterior walls if any water pipes are in that section of wall. Let house heat get to wall with pipes

Keep facet running in small volume when it gets super cold, this way the water will be moving, avoiding freezing(edited)

What is the address I actually need one
